For the Donegal Bay and Bluestacks Festival 2002, An Cosán Glas were invited to work with children in three primary schools in south Donegal. Three artists from An Cosan Glas worked in each school for two days. They supplied bamboo, willow, and cordyline leaves, but the majority of the natural materials were sourced from around the schools.
At first the children experimented with materials and methods of construction and foraged for additional materials and sites for sculptures. They soon realised the scope and range of shapes, colours and textures that could be made from familiar materials.
In a short period of time, the energy and enthusiasm of the children lead to some spectacular sculptures, together with fine detailing and craftsmanship.
