An Cosan Glas are delighted to have participated in this years event together with the major arts and cultural venues in Letterkenny such as Donegal County Museum, the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny Town Council, Donegal County Council’s Heritage and Archives Services, An Grianán Theatre, the Create-a-link Artists Studios, ArtCo Gallery and the County Library Service.
The large scale illuminated sculptures that formed part of the annual sculptural trail at Magheraroarty beach were re-located for one night only to the Letterkenny town park and as dusk turned to night the work became alive in the beautiful surroundings of the park.
In the open space of the main lawn in the Cosan Glas Yurt animated short films made by the children during the recent summer workshops were shown. Totem sculptures at the park entrance and Easter Island inspired sculptures all made by the children were exhibited.
A total of 18 sculptures comprising those made by this years invited artists Christy Keeney and Jim Osborne, together with those of the resident artists Deirdre Brennan, Seamus Kennedy, Annjo Carr, Mícheál Mc Fadden, Ewan Berry, Billy Wynter (Cornwall) and Cathal Mac Fhionnghaile, winner of this year’s John O’Leary Fine Art Graduate Award ( Sligo County Council / Sligo IT ) were shown for the night.
The show attracted an estimated 2,000 visitors on the night.
Culture night is an initiative co-ordinated by Temple Bar Cultural Trust and supported by the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism, in partnership with Donegal County council and Letterkenny Town Council.
