An Cosan Glas and Saothar Ealaion

An Cosan Glas and Saothar Ealaion are art programmes set up by Deirdre Brennan, Annjo Carr and Seamus Kennedy in 1995 to promote the visual arts in the County Donegal Gaeltacht. The Gaeltacht denotes any region in Ireland where the Irish language (Gaeilge) is spoken. It is based in a rural area of beautiful landscapes between Errigal mountain and Tory island on the north west coast of County Donegal.

We travel to communities to conduct art projects, workshops and activities. An Cosan Glas involves the creation of art, craft and sculpture projects in outdoor settings using largely natural materials, while Saothar Ealaion projects are mainly schools based.

Since 1995, An Cosan Glas has created outdoor Sculpture Trails as part of the annual Earagail Arts Festival. The ‘Loinnir’ night time exhibitions of giant illuminated sculptures set amongst the sand dunes at Magheraroarty regularly attract audiences of 2000 and more.
